Theatre at the Mill screens RSC's King Lear

The cinema screening will be fed live from the home of the Royal Shakespeare Company directly to the local theatre, so that the audience will truly feel that they are part of the experience.

The Shakespearean masterpiece tells the story of King Lear, who has ruled for many years,

As age begins to overtake him, he decides to divide his kingdom amongst his children, living out his days without the burden of power.

A proud man, he allows vanity to cloud his judgment, believing that he can relinquish the crown, but enjoy the same authority and respect he has always known.

Misjudging his children’s loyalty he soon finds himself stripped of all the trappings of state, wealth and power he had taken for granted.

Alone in the wilderness he is left to confront the mistakes of a life that has brought him to this point.

Following his performance as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s great 20th century American tragedy Death of a Salesman, Antony Sher returns to play King Lear, one of the greatest parts written by Shakespeare.

Sir Antony Sher is a two time Laurence Olivier Award winner and four-time nominee. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1982 and toured in many roles, as well as appearing on film and TV,

As well as a catalogue of stage performances, Sir Antony has also appeared in a host of films, including the 2001 adaptation of Macbeth, the Oscar winning Shakespeare in Love, and Mrs Brown, for which he won the Pete Sellers Award for Comedy at the Evening Standard British Film Awards in 1997.

The production is directed by the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Artistic Director Gregory Doran.
