A picture of a coin showing King Abgarus XI a descendent of Jesus-Izas from the 3rd century. The coin shows more clearly the plaited crown of thorns worn by Edessan monarchs. See SWNS story SWJESUS; Is THIS the face of Jesus Christ? An ancient coin depicting a bearded man wearing a crown of thorns could be the first and only true portrait of Jesus Christ, British experts claim. The tiny bronze coin, which dates back to the 1st-century AD, sports what scholars conclude is the only lifelike image ever made of the biblical Jesus. Until now, the 24mm-wide coin was widely believed to merely bear the face of King Manu, a wealthy warrior monarch who controlled the Mesopotamian kingdom of Edessa, in what is now southeastern Turkey. But after nearly three decades of painstaking research, a leading biblical historian claims to have made what he describes as "one of the most important discoveries in modern history" - that King Manu and Jesus were one and the same person.
