The school has enjoyed its best ever set of GCSE results this year, with 93 per cent earning five A*-C grades or more, a dramatic rise from 36 per cent back in 2013. That number rose to 73 per cent in 2014 and 92 per cent last year.

A delighted Larne High principal John Armstrong – who is set to retire this October after 37 years at the school– told the Times: “Last year we achieved the best results in the school’s history and we never though we could surpass that, but these pupils have come up trumps.

“I am so proud of our children for their tremendous achievements and our staff for the hard work they have put in over the past year. We also have a significant number of pupils with special needs and I am immensely proud of what they have accomplished.”
