We didn't need any motivation

Manager's view

IT HAD been in the paper before the game that John Gregg had said that Trevor Molloy and Tony Grant’s wages would pay the whole Institute team.

He’s totally denying that he made that statement and says that he didn’t speak to the press in the past couple of weeks so I don’t know. It was quite disrespectful. It wasn’t fair and it was right because both players took a substantial pay cut last August to stay at the club. We didn’t need a lot of motivation for the game anyway. I brought the paper onto the bus up to Institute and let the boys have a look at it.

I was delighted to come away with the three points. There didn’t look like being any way back but we got the bit of luck and we kept trying. We stayed positive after getting the equaliser, we kept going and luckily enough it was a good corner from Stuart King for a good second goal.

We kept going until the final whistle and it was a huge bonus when the six minutes of injury time came up. It was a big boost and we scored quickly and then managed to get the winner.

I thought it had gone beyond us and thought that we weren’t going to get anything out of it but we kept plodding away. We probably had created three or four chances without really looking like taking any of them. We passed it about more than them but they’re effective in their own way and it’s always a big win at Drumahoe. No matter who’s up there, they’re always happy to come away with the win.

Overall our performance wasn’t great but it was a bit better than it has been over recent weeks. We passed it about well and I thought Ryan Harpur got a lot of the ball and used it well.
