Villa end season on a high

Friday night was the last week of darts for the Coleraine & District Darts League and with the top two both having walkovers on the night it was all about who would finish third.

Villa travelled to Cooleys while Villa Swifts were at home to Finn McCools with both Villa teams looking for third place. Villa got of to a shaky start in their game with Cooley’s as they found themselves trailing 2-1 with some good darts from Owen McLaughlin and Eugene Doherty for Cooleys. Villa Captain Philip Moffitt then levelled the match before Jarlath McGarry rode his luck to win and put Villa 3-2 up. Francis Kelly with the games only 180 and a 20 dart leg looked to have the next game in the bag but eventually lost out to Dan Hyndman who had an excellent 17 dart leg to level the match at 3-3. Villa then took the lead again through Rodney Kane before Michael Sweeney fought back well to win the last game for Villa with legs in 16 & 21 darts to give Villa a 5-3 victory.

Villa Swifts didn’t have the same luck as the Villa though as once again they found themselves missing key players and found themselves down 2-0 down to Finn McCools through Jimmy Elliott and Billy Thompson. Martin Barr won the next for the Swifts before an impressive performance from Damian Norton which included a 17 dart leg, levelled the match. Richard McKeown then put Finns back in front defeating the high scoring Darren Moffatt before Mervyn Greer overcame the also high Scoring Clark Scott who had the only 180 in this game to put Finns 4-2 up. William Bond pulled another back for the Swifts and as Finns only had 7 players Bobby Moffatt got a walkover in the final game for Swifts to level at 4-4. This puts both teams on 37 points awaiting a decision on Villa’s outstanding game against Floyds B.
