Three nights of top-class play on the club schedule to mark final showcase

Play is set to start each evening at 6.15 and spectators will be hoping for thrilling play similar to the successful semi-finals.

Lurgan seniors closed off a season of frustration with defeat to struggling Carrick by 90-80.

Carrick entered the match in search of victory in the battle to beat the drop and had Lurgan on the backfoot across the afternoon towards lifting five points.

Simon Collins, Jeff McCullough, Stephen Poots and Alan Roberts were two shots clear by the halfway point but Carrick hit back to go up by five. A spirited finish left Lurgan down by 21-20.

Ronnie McCullough, Mike Parr, Harry Cosgrove and Mansell Montgomery were down by 16-4 at the midway stage before moving level on 23 apiece thanks to a determined fightback. However, with the game gone overall but Lurgan holding shot, Montgomery did not have to play the final bowl in a 24-23 win.

Michael Bunting, Roy Poots, Gareth Bunting and John Gilliland proved in fine form by dropping just six ends towards the 28-8 triumph.

Bobby Boness, Dan Dempsey, Pete McGrail and Alan Briggs finished down and out by 38-8 on a rink to forget.

Lurgan B suffered a setback in the bid for promotion into NIBA Division Four with a weekend reverse to basement side Castle.

Castle entered the match with six wins from nine home dates but Lurgan enjoyed the driving seat by 15 ends with a 10-shot advantage.

However, Gerry Stewart’s rink collected a 29-16 success but the remaining players let slip control over the closing stages in the 82-72 reverse.

Bobby Jones, Vincent Devlin, Rodney McCarthy and Charlie Maguire were 12-6 down by the midpoint on rink one then just three behind before Castle came out on top with a 26-10 result.

Michael Steen, Albert Houston, Eamonn Quinn and Gerry Stewart pushed hard to hold the upper hand and finish 29-16 in front for Lurgan’s sole point.

Mel Hamilton, Tom Connelly, Derek Henderson and Sam Neill hit the six-end mark down by 12 without reply but a strong response left the gap at 12-7.

Triple shots went in the favour of Lurgan before Castle regained the lead in a 21-17 reverse.

On rink four, Neil Sloan, Bobby Livingstone, Dick McClune and Will McCullough enjoyed a slick start to sit 12-5 up by the midpoint but Castle moved back in front. Defeat across each of the final two ends put Lurgan down and out by 19-16.

Lurgan B will face Windsor on Saturday, with promotion now based on results in other fixtures.
