Success as Peter wins silver

There was success for Lisburn Taekwondo Club instructor Peter Stewart, when he won a silver medal at the 6th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships recently.

A team of 20 players from Northern Ireland travelled to Edinburgh to represent the country in the championships from November 15-16.

This prestigious biennial event attracted teams from all across the Commonwealth. Over 550 seasoned players from nations as far afield as Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Nigeria travelled to the UK to take part.

Peter Stewart, Laura Burns and Reggie Tiffen of Lisburn Taekwondo Club were selected for the team and put in a lot of hard training in the preceding months in preparation for what proved to be a tough tournament.

All three performed to a high standard, particularly Master Stewart who came away with silver. Northern Ireland as a team had an amazing championships coming away with 4 bronze and 2 silver medals.
