Scullion set to return to Mourneview Park

FORMER Glenavon player David Scullion could be set for a return to Mourneview Park.

The talented midfielder played for Derry City in last season’s Eircom League before moving to Australia and was playing for the Richmond Eagles in the Victorian Premier League, one division below the national A-League.

However, the 26 year-old winger has opted for a return to his home town and is keen to get back on Glenavon’s books after having played one season for the Blues in their relegation season of 2003/2004.

Scullion began his career with Glenavon’s Mid-Ulster rivals Portadown but after 10 league appearances as a 16 year-old, he was snapped up by Aston Villa where he won the FA Youth Cup in 2002.

After his following spell at Mourneview Park, Scullion moved on to Dungannon Swifts. Glentoran then forked out a reported 10,000 for his services in 2007. He scored 15 goals in 64 appearances at the Oval and now appears set to return to Irish League football.

“David’s coming back from Australia and has made it known that he’d be interested in talking to us,” boss, Marty Quinn told the ‘MAIL.’

“I’ll be certainly talking to him when he arrives back within the next couple of weeks. He’s a local lad and we’d be very keen to have him. He’s a quality player with a great left peg. He puts it in the box with some good deliveries and gets his fair share of goals. Players are coming with the right attitude and they’re seeing that things are starting to happen at Glenavon and they want to be part of it. That’s the sort of people I want to have around me.”
