POOL: Thatch Rockets shock Feathers in Cup

The Q Club Knockout Cup took centre stage in the Larne and District Pool League this week, with 16 teams taking part.

Thatch Rockets shocked Feathers 8-7, and it was perhaps fitting that captain Jean McIlroy won the deciding frame.

Holders Thatch were beaten 8-3 by Q Pool who were led by a Paul Francey hat-trick and doubles from Billy Moore and Tommy Morrow.

Ibrox and Saints will fancy their chances of Cup success and each had comfortable wins over Clonlee and Tech Tornadoes respectively. The in-form Gers came from behind to beat Q Club 8-5, with Darren Lowe taking the all-important eighth frame. William Magill was the hero for the No. 1 Reds as he secured the winning frame in his side’s 8-6 win against Station Bar.

St Comgalls and No. 1 Blues now face each other after comfortable wins. The Saints beat bottom side Ruby’s. The Blues saw off Freewheelers in a match in which 14-year-old Aaron Rolston pocketed a hat-trick and 12-year-old Ryan Marcus chalked up a double.

The league breaks for St Patrick’s Day, with only Q Pool and Ruby’s in action. There will also be a £5 flyer at Q Club (8pm).
