Larne Athletic Club’s Andy Gregg made his first visit to the mountains this season, taking part in Sunday’s 11-mile Flagstaff to Carlingford Race, the fifth round of this year’s NIMRA Championship.

In perfect, clear conditions the Ballyclare man finished in 30th place with a time of 2:11:33.

On the previous Thursday evening (June 11), two Larne AC runners tackled the twin peaks of Hen and Cock mountains in the ninth round of the Hill and Dale Series. Bryan Magee finished 60th in 38:57, while Elaine Hall claimed 183rd in 59:33.

On the same evening Larne hosted its seventh handicap of the season and 36 club members took part in the race. The first athlete home was Alison Magill (41:15). Second and third went to Rory McGregor (50:52) and Charlie Meban (36:23).

Round three of the East Antrim Harriers Trail Series was held at Ballyboley Forest in midweek on a 4.1-mile course from Killylane Reservoir. Again, a large contingent of Larne Athletic Club runners took part.

Craig Hutchinson finished first for the club in eighth place overall (24:12), with John Neill next in 11th (24:43). Martan Keane was just behind in 12th (24:54).

Juliane Keane was again first Larne AC lady home in a time of 31:47 (87th overall), while Roberta Barham finished 92nd (32:11).

Janine Rainey in 102nd place (33:07) secured the Series Female Vet50 title with three wins from three, a feat equalled by Charlie Meban in the Male Vet65 category. Charlie finished 67th in a time of 30:10.

Larne AC’s junior runners all ran well. Jack Baxter finished well up the field in 22nd place (26:25), Erin Beattie finished 119th (35:42) and Laura Brennan finished 147th (40:28).

The remaining Larne AC finishers were: Andy Gregg, 16th (25:38), Bert Shaw, 35th (27:41), Bryan Magee, 48th (29:09), Dan Magill, 83rd (31:30), Kirsten Montgomery, 123rd (36:25), Clare McGuinness, 131st (37:59), Robin Alexander, 132nd (38:00), Charlotte Hall, 139th (38:54), Keith Hetherington, 140th (38:56), Irene Beattie, 149th (41:29), Helen Graham, 156th (43:31), Linda Moore, 158th (44:17), Tracey Mann, 161st (45:27), Rey Magill, 162nd (45:43), Margaret Ferguson, 163rd (46:02).
