Para-swimmer Bethany Firth put in a dominant performance to win the women's S14 200m freestyle final and secure Northern Ireland first gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The 26-year-old, who is a six-time six-time Paralympic champion, finished 1.54 seconds ahead of England's Jessica-Jane Applegate with an overall time of 2:07.02.

Firth is the event's world record holder however the Commonwealth title was one that had evaded her until Wednesday night.
