Val Doonican sang at AEI factory

Crooner Val Doonican was in concert at Larne’s AEI factory in July 1971.

Val appeared in two shows in the same programme as singers from England, Dublin and Belfast.

Tickets were priced at £1 and 75 pence.

Val had been signed to a five-year television contract. He had been in showbusiness for 28 years.

Speaking afterwards, Val said that the Larne audience had been “extremely appreciative”.

His repertoire had featured songs from his television show as well as those which had been recorded.

He also sang “Carnlough Bay” on request from the audience.

Afterwards, he signed autographs and returned to stay at Ballygally Castle Hotel.
