New entry call for Northern Ireland Schools Pool Championships

The two-day championships will held in the Lodge Hotel with 14 specially installed competition pool tables supplied by Baize Craft of Lisburn.

The championships are being designed to enable the pupils of secondary schools and colleges of further education throughout Northern Ireland to compete in National Individuals and Team events.

The National Individuals will be held on Tuesday, February 23 with the National Team event on Wednesday, February 24.

Both competitions will commence at 10.30am and finish around 4pm.

The entry fee into the Individuals will be 5 which will entitle a player to enter one of three age categories and also a subsequent Plate event for all first and second round losers.

The age categories for both Individuals and Teams, are: Under 19 years of age on July 1, 2009; Under-17 years of age on July 1, 2009; and Under-15 years of age on July 1, 2009.

Matches in the Individuals will be over the best of five frames with Plate matches decided over the best of three.

In the Team championships teams will consist of three players with the entry fee 15.

All matches in the Team event will be over the best of nine frames with all first and second round losers going into the Plate competition.

All players will be required to be attired in dress trousers, polo shirt or dress shirt and dress shoes. No jeans, jogging bottoms, football tops or trainers will be permitted.

A specially, prepared menu will be available at lunchtime for participants. No meals or drinks are allowed to be brought into the hotel.

The organisers, the Coleraine Pool League, will provide all the required staff and referees to run the event.

The championships, which have been sanctioned by the Northern Ireland Pool Association, will be played to Blackball Rules (A4 copies can be distributed by post on request) as defined by the World Pool Association.
