Maiden victory for Reid at Oulton Park

Andy Reid scored his first British Supersport victory in Saturday’s Sprint Race at Oulton Park after starting in pole position.

The Jordanstown rider was within yards of making it a memorable double during Sunday’s feature race, but came off yards from the finish line, leaving him battered and bruised and nursing a wrist injury.

In Saturday’s 12-lap Sprint Race, the Team Traction Control Yamaha rider was as low as fifth place at one stage, but regained his composure to take a memorable win, setting a lap record in the process.

The 21-year-old dedicated the victory to his late father who had been a massive influence on his career, and Team Traction Control team owner Keith Flint.

Andy led for the majority of Sunday’s 15-lap feature race, and after taking the lead at the final corner, team owner Keith Flint was already celebrating what would have been a second victory.

But just as he was approaching the finish line, Andy was flipped from his bike with the chequered flag in sight.

Although the second race was frustrating for the Jordanstown rider, he is still focussing on the positives from the weekend.

“Unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be, but at least we showed what we can do at Team Traction Control Yamaha. Although I have a wrist injury, I’m going to take in all the positives and not the negatives from Oulton, and we will be back faster and stronger,” Andy said.
