Larne Ladies will enjoy their Christmas break after Saturday’s 3-0 Senior 1 win over Civil Service.

The local side dominated the first half but were unable to turn their possession into goals, such was the form of the NICS keeper.

The second half was atogether different affair as Larne rattled home three without reply. They came out determined and were rewarded with the opener when Laura Withers marked her return to the 1st XI after a year out with a knee injury with the breakthrough goal.

The second came courtesy of Kerry McIlwaine, and just before the final whistle Diane Henry netted the third to give Larne a well-deserved victory.

Larne: T Neill, M Finlay, G Russell, A Ogilby, L Snoddy, G Rennix, I Carmichael, C McIlwaine, R Dalton capt. D Henry, K Neill, K McCully, L Withers, coach A King.

The club’s seconds lost 4-2 to Belfast Harlequins in their Junior 3 league game. They leaked four goals early in the first half, but Larne responded with two goals from Anne Snoddy. Despite their best attempts in the second session, the goals just didn’t come and Larne were left disappointed as the final result did not reflect the play.

There will be no games until January 5 when Larne firsts and seconds take on their Ballymena counterparts at Larne High School (2:30pm).
