Larne announced their arrival on the Qualifying Two stage in style with a solid win over Grosvenor at Glynn.
Captain Ryan Garrett scored two tries and Jordan Burns and Ryan McAllister chipped in with one apiece as Larne ran out 31-15 winners.
Garrett’s men will hope to build on their opening day success with back-to-back home games against Ballymoney and Academy. After that, it’s the small matter of Carrickfergus away in early October.
Meanwhile, Larne have announced former Ballymena player Ryan Milligan as their head coach this season.
William Nelson is the 1st XV Manager and Davy Wilson has taken on a new role to help develop the youth structure within the club.
Larne Thirds won 20-15 against Ballymoney. Tries from Gareth Gaw and Gareth Rennix together with two conversions and two penalties from Gary Knox secured the win.
Three serious injuries (two broken ankles and a dislocated shoulder), occurred in Larne Thirds’ game and the players involved required medical treatment at different intervals.
A special thanks goes out to the supporters and members on the sidelines who helped out the players keeping them warm and calm whilst the ambulances arrived. Speedy recovery for those injured.
Larne Thirds finished the game with 13 men and defended very bravely.
