McCarthy hat-trick helps Thatch

Something had to give in week five of the Larne Pool League as Thatch and Ibrox - both with 100 per cent records - went head-to-head.

It was looking good for Ibrox who forged 4-0 up but a Ronan McCarthy hat-trick brought Thatch right back into it.

With each side trading frames until the play-off, a decider was needed.

Thatch were 8-7 up and, thanks to a classy break-and-dish from Gerry McCorry, the champions got a well-earned two points to claim a 9-7 win.

The No. 1 Club stay joint-top after they recorded their second 14-1 win of the season - this time against Thatch Rockets.

The Saints also kept alive their title hopes with an impressive 13-2 win over the Reds. Stablemates St Comgall’s remain joint-bottom after a 11-4 defeat away to the ever0improving Blues who were aided by hat-tricks from Neil McFaul and Matthew Thompson.

Station Bar pocketed their second win in a row, 10-5 against the Gers, with Micky O’Boyle and Paul Smyth weighing in with hat-tricks.

Feathers found it tough going against BSQ Rangers trailing 4-1. But they were inspired to a 10-5 win helped by a Ian McCalmont hat-trick.

At Q Club, a Darren Mcclelland hat-trick couldn’t stop Ruby’s losing 9-6 to the hosts who were helped by a Marty Goudie treble.
