McDonald's football festival a success

ONE hundred primary school pupils from Larne Borough attended a McDonald's Regional Festival at the new Greenland Multi Sports Arena in Larne recently. The festival was hosted by the IFA, the Larne Grassroots Development Centre and McDonald's as part of their community football programme.

Local children were offered opportunities to further develop their passing, dribbling and shooting skills as well as taking part in speed, agility and quickness training and world cup matches.

Speaking about the festival Larne’s Grassroots Development Officer Jonny Michael said: “This festival gives children the opportunity to learn and practice their football skills in a fun and pressure free environment. I would like to thank all the coaches for their involvement today and for making it such a success. I would also like to thank Larne High School and Moyle Primary School for the use of the new Astroturf pitch on their campus for the festival. It is a wonderful surface and I am sure it will be a great addition to the sporting facilities within the borough.”

John Armstrong, Principal of Larne High School, was a special guest at the event, said: “As a Larne person reflecting upon the facilities on offer during my childhood, I find it uplifting to see so many young people engaged in sporting activity. The excitement generated by this wonderful event in such a fantastic setting is inspiring. Who knows what future sporting heroes we may be nurturing.”
