McCafferty holes an ace at Foyle

THE Pitchers Restaurant sponsored Spring League at Foyle has reached the half way stage with five cards returned and the leadership has changed again.

Team 18 of Martin McEleney, Peter Roddy, Darren Coyle and Sean McEleney returned a sensational score of 112 points, the highest score to date for an accumulated total of 509 points to take a slender three point lead over Team 1 of Ciaran O’Doherty, Ciaran Gillen, Ryan Gillen and Caolan McLaughlin.

Team 8 of John McDowell, David Knox, Stuart Gauld and Paddy Coyle have 488 points and are sitting in third spot at the minute.

At this stage in the qualifying there is still a lot of teams well in the hunt for the eight places on offer in the matchplay.

The highlight of the weeks play was a hole-in-one at the par three 8th hole where Paddy McCafferty holed out with an eight iron for his ace witnessed by playing partners James Logue, Seamus Logue and Finbar Logue.

The Easter Egg competitions were claimed by Tony McGinley, James Sheehanand Liam McCafferty.

At a very well attended 17th Annual General Meeting of Foyle Men’s Golf Club last week, The Hon Secretary gave the delegates a very glowing report stating the club had a very successful year with membership on the increase for the third year in a row compeition entries were increased, and with another very good open week along with the achievements on the golf course everyone at Foyle should be proud of the continued success of this young club.

Outgoing Captain Mr Gary Jackson said it was the pinacle of every golfers career to be Captain of his club, saying he had a very enjoyable year with the wonderful experience off being in office as the club won their first All Ireland Title when David Knox and Stuart Gauld won the prestigeous Holmpatrick Cup at the home of golf St. Andrews before handing over to 2011 Captain Mr Kevin Dunn, who on taking up office said that he would try and maintain the wonderful work carried out by his predecessors and was looking forward to the year ahead.
