Jordan helpes create a Dallas family dynasty at the Lodge Road

For the first time in the club’s 112-year history a third member from the same family has been named as President.

Jordan Dallas this season follows in the footsteps of his father Victor and grandfather Noel, who held the same position in 2010 and 1980 respecyively.

The Coleraine man is thrilled to follow their lead.

“I am very proud to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather and then my father,” he told Times Sport.

“My granddad was the 68th President of the club, Dad was the 98th and I am now the 103rd. It was great to have Dad by my side as the stand-in secretary and I know my granddad would have been proud to see me with the President chain on too, not to mention claiming the Irish Senior Cup in 2013 on the same rink as Dad.

“It is the first time that three generations of the same family have held the position, two other families have held the position with two generations but we have made history with the three.

“It is a record that Dad and I are extremely proud of, and it is nice to look at the President’s Board and see the three Dallas names on it.

“It is something that will always be ingrained in the fabric of this great club, Coleraine Bowling Club is an institution within the town and I’m grateful that we have a great family tradition within the club.

“My family have been very supportive of me throughout my bowling career and they know that receiving the Presidency is a high honour, and one that only comes around once at a club like Coleraine.

“I’ve received some lovely phone calls, emails and messages and it’s something I’ll always remember. Michaela, my girlfriend, has been a great help through it all and she’s been very understanding with the busy schedule I’ll have in the season ahead, with the Irish Bowling Association Presidency also at Coleraine. I’ve even promised her a trip to France next year, if Northern Ireland qualify for the Euros!”

Jordan has been involved with the club for 12 years now and during that time he has held various roles.

“When I first joined Coleraine in 2003, I never thought I’d be President so soon, especially at my age,” he said.

“I’m the youngest ever President in the 112 year history of the club, at the ripe old age of 28!

I was bar convenor for a year, I’ve been on the fundraising committee, I became Secretary back in 2011 and I’ve been Captain of the Senior team since 2012. So when the offer of Vice-President came up in 2013, I was delighted to accept, having just lifted the Irish Senior Cup two months previous.

“2015 was a great year to take up the Presidency as we have the IBA President from our club, Robert Madden, in the same year. So there’ll be a lot of all-Ireland events at the club throughout the season.

“I’ve certainly held a lot of positions at the club in my time, I think the only roles I haven’t held are treasurer and greenkeeper!”

So what are the President’s hopes for the new campaign?

“This season, we have strengthened with Stephen Smyth and Archie Robinson joining us, two very good players who have fitted in seamlessly at Lodge Road,” he said.

“We would like to win the Senior League this season, having not won it since 1994, we just need to iron out our consistency.

“The camaraderie and togetherness in our team is second to none and the lads all encourage and fight for each other.

“I just hope to be standing at the end of August with a bit more silverware, but the likes of Ballymoney, Cookstown and Portrush will no doubt have their say in that.”
