ICE SKATING: Jenna set for European Championships

ELEVEN of the country's top skaters including Coleraine's Jenna McCorkell have been selected to represent Team GB at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2010.

The National Ice Skating Association (NISA) will be sending a full team to the prestigious event, which takes place in Tallinn, Estonia between January 19 and 24.

Amongst the other skaters competing for a title of European Champion at the Saku Suurhall rink will be Britain's number one dance couple Sinead and John Kerr.

The Edinburgh duo will be looking to defend their bronze medal achieved in the 2008 Championships in Finland.

It is the last major Championships before the 2010 Winter Olympics, which get underway in Vancouver on February 12.

Keith Horton, chief executive of NISA, the national governing body responsible for the development of the sport throughout Britain and Northern Ireland, said: "Congratulations to all the skaters who have been selected.

"They are an extremely talented group and we wish them all the very best at the competition.

"We are delighted to be able to send a full team to Estonia, following and building on the success of our skaters at the 2008 Championships.

"With the Winter Olympics just a month after the event, it will provide our competitors with vital competition practice and the chance to test themselves against Europe's best."
