Henderson hat-trick seals the points for Under-13's

COLERAINE Under-13's took on Warrenpoint in the Mid-Ulster League on Saturday and came home with all three points.

Coleraine started the game very sluggishly and allowed Warrenpoint to dominate from the whistle and they took the lead on 10 minutes when a cross from the right found the top of the net giving the Coleraine keeper no chance.

This set back seemed to kick start the Coleraine lads and within five minutes Jeff Purdy equalised firing home after Danny Henderson’s shot had been parried.

Warrenpoint almost regained the lead though only to be denied by a great save from Andrew Gawne. Five minutes before the break though they did managed to grab a second as Coleraine failed to clear their lines.

Coleraine’s fitness began to tell as the second half wore on and with 10 minutes to go the Warrenpoint keeper failed to deal with Krissy Thompson’s cross and Henderson headed home.

Coleraine grabbed a third almost straight away after Henderson was sent sprawling in the box, the big striker dusted himself off and coolly slotted home.

Coleraine hadn't finished yet and with a minute to go an attack down the left found William McKendry with acres of room, his initial shot was well saved by the keeper, but his follow up found the net.

After a 10-1 win against Ballysally last Saturday the Coleraine U9's had a more difficult task this week against their Colts team who are doing a good job under Uel Tomb.

Luke McKendry put them in front before an own goal from the Colts doubled their lead before the break.

To their credit the Colts didn’t let it affect them, but they were unlucky to concede a third from Andy Whiteside.

The Academy under 9's started to take control with another goal from Luke McKendry and a superb strike from young Kyle Whiteside. Colts keeper Saul Tomb, had an outstanding game earning him Man of the Match award for the Colts, with Andy Whiteside winning the Academy Man of the Match.

The Colts couldn’t field a full strength team against Bertie Peacocks as four players were struck down by illness, but the boys still gave a good account of themselves. Again, as in past weeks, the Colts could not take their chances and were then punished. Travis McNaul in midfield made some good, well-timed tackles and Darren Browne was steady in defence and played well. There was not a great deal between the teams but Bertie’s took their chances when they came to leave the final score 3-1 to Bertie’s.

Man of the Match – Darren Browne.

Coleraine had a lot to listen to during the halftime break from their coaches and it did make a difference as there was a lot more fight from them in the second half. Bailey Devine and Corey McKeary on the wings got on the ball more, however it was Institute who scored again.

Towards the end of the game Coleraine did start to put a few passes together and Issac Dunn and Connor Lundy both had chances, but Institute ran out easy winners in the end.

Man of the Match: Alan Dunn and Krystof Silakowski.

The pressure finally paid off as Rodgers jinked in behind the defender before slipping the ball past the keeper.

The second half continued in the same vein until the Under-12’s cut their opponents open with the move of the match. Millar picked out Walker on the right, he beat two defenders before unselfishly picking out Gault at the back post to tuck the ball home.

The third soon came as Rodgers again latched on to a Waddell pass to beat the keeper. The U12`s were playing with confidence with both Ritchie and Gault going close before Rodgers completed his hat-trick to leave the final score 4-0.

Man of the Match: Curtis Rodgers.

However, Coleraine struck back almost immediately when Mathew Kirkpatrick equalised in the 12th minute. Despite the early goals the match never sparked into life. Coleraine gradually began to gain the upper hand and Kirkpatrick put Coleraine in front after he was put through on goal, cutting back to score with a well-hit left footed shot.

Coleraine came out for the second half with a lot more purpose and Morelli soon made it 3-1, capitalising on confusion in the Donemana defence. It started to become one-way traffic with Coleraine creating, but failing to convert, a lot of chances.

Kirkpatrick eventually added the fourth, and also his hat-trick goal, when he converted after a goalmouth scramble.

After a further bout of substitutions, Josh Cameron was on hand to tap in to make it 5-1 after good work on the right.

Man of the Match: Mathew Kirkpatrick.
