Winter League and Sweep action at Galgorm Castle

The Winter League and Sweep continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club with some close finishes in the Divisions.

After four in Division 1 Keith Clements (5) held a narrow one point lead overSean McCormick (3) and Steven Penney (1) who in turn were another point ahead of Gary Jackson (5) and Michael Alexander (3).

In a close finish McCormick with a par and eagle three at the last joined Clements (par, birdie) and with a better last six Clements held on to win with McCormick taking the Gross.

Chris Cooke (6) opened strongly with two pars, a birdie and another par in Division 2 and after the fourth held a one point advantage over Neil Fitzsimmons (7) who had a two par, bogey, par start. Gareth Beckington (6) also opened with two pars, a bogey and a par and was one point behind Fitzsimmons.

A further point behind came James McAuley (6) and Trevor Dawson (7).

Cooke finished with two pars to win by three points from McAuley with a fine birdie, par finish. Fitzsimmons faltered at the penultimate hole which he double bogeyed and finished with a par.

In Division 3 Ian Rainey (9) started briskly with two pars, a birdie and a par over the first four holes to lead by two shots from Roy McDowell (10) and Malachy Kyne (10).

John McClintock after a ‘ding’ at the fist was another two points behind.

with one hole left Rainey, McDowell and Kyne were level with McClintock one point behind. McDowell and Kyne parred the last to finish level and with a better last six McDowell took first place with second place going to Kyne.

Division Four was won by Trevor Galloway (12) by a point from Mervyn Lamont (12).

Two’s were recorded by – M..Alexander, N.Candlish, P.Graham, C.Cooke, J.McAuley, A.McKervill, A.Moore, M.Kyne, R.McDowell and J.Caulfield.
