Paul and Neil qualify torepresent Silverwood

SATURDAY’S competition at Silverwood was the fourball betterball GUI qualifier and the winner’s going to forward to represent Silverwood are Paul Lavery and Neil McAlinden.

Paul and Neil returned a net 65 off their ¾ handicap allowance playing off 5 and 9, they had a front nine off 31 which included two birdies on the 6th hole for a net one and the 7th hole with two bogeys at the 1st and 5th holes for net pars, the remaining holes were played in par with the third hole resulted in a net birdie.

Their back nine consisted of eight pars with the 10th, 13th, 14th, and 17th holes adding up to net birdies and their only bogey coming at the par 5, 16th hole for a back nine of 34 and a total of 65, good luck in the next qualifying round.

In second place with a net 66 and a better back nine were Patrick Cushnahan and James Nelson playing off their 11 and 15 handicaps, they had a front nine 34 with one birdie at the 4th hole, three pars at the 7th 8th and 9th holes and the remaining holes were played in net pars.

They had a back nine of 32 with a birdie at the 12th hole four net birdies at the 10th 13th 14th and 15th holes, one par at the 11th hole, and the remaining holes played in net pars to just lose out by one shot.

In third place also with a net 66 were Philip Patterson and Prakash Vyas, they had a great front nine of 30 which included two birdies at the 4th and 7th holes and four net birdies at the 1st 5th 6th and 9th holes, one par at the second hole, a net par at the 3th and one bogey at the 8th hole.

Their back nine consisted of one birdie at the difficult 17th hole, two net birdies at 10th and 12th holes, three net pars at the 11th 14th and 16th holes, one single bogey at the 15th and two net bogeys on the 13th and 18th holes, and were just beaten on a back nine count back.

The gross prize was won by Michael Haughian and Sean McStay with a gross 74, their front nine of 36 contained two birdies at the 7th and 8th holes, three bogeys at the 2nd 5th and 6th holes with the remaining holes played in par. Their back nine included eight pars with their only bogey coming at the 15th hole, for a very solid round of golf.
