Lisburn and Rockmount to face off in Fourball final

Lisburn and Rockmount have both forged their way through to the decider.

In fact, after the success of the club’s Junior Foursomes team, Lisburn’s Ulster Fourball and Sam Rutherford teams both reached their respective finals last weekend.

After their victory at Fortwilliam, it was no surprise that the Ulster Fourball team sealed the match in the return leg.

Meanwhile, Rockmount’s team saw out a second leg win at Foyle GC.

In the warm and sunny weather a large Lisburn crowd assembled to encourage the locals.

At the turn, Alan Gilmore’s team were ahead in four of the five matches. At this stage Jason Smylie and Mark Jamieson were all square and won on the 17th green when Jason holed a chip.

Barry Cathcart and Glenn Cruickshanks were two ahead after nine holes and went on to win three and two to give Lisburn an unassailable lead.

When called in, Stephen Wilkinson and Trevor Doak were all square, Chris Davis and Alan Crowe were one up and Philip Stewart and Barry McQuillan were two up.

Rockmount’s team took a 4-1 lead with them to Foylefor Sunday’s second leg.

The fatal blow was struck by Alex Thompson and Fergus McCartney who won eight and seven.

Russell Jamison and Dessie Reid went down six and five but all other matches were called in as Rockmount secured their spot in the final.

Lisburn’s Sam Rutherford team defeated Dungannon by one hole on their course on Saturday and did even better in the home match to win easily.

In the top match, Andy Parr and Randal Kernaghan won by eight holes. The other matches were called in when Simon Ingram and Stephen Stewart went two ahead after 17. At this stage Mark Jamison and Brian Houston and were six ahead after 15 while David McCallister and Ian Suffern were two down playing 16.

Dessie Kerr’s team now meet Killymoon in the final.
