Banbridge beat Clover Hill in Junior Cowdy Cup

It took two days to complete the first leg away at Clover Hill. Rain stopped play the first day and both teams had to come back to finish off the 
matches.

Gerry Blevins and Carson Clegg got a half
 match.

Dominic Quinn and James Bryson won

Kieran Lennon and John Convery lost.

Sean McGreevey and Kenny Jones lost.

That put Clover Hill into the lead by one point (2.5 – 1.5).

The second leg was played at Banbridge last Friday evening. And what a nail-biter it turned out to be!

Dermot Magee and Sean McGreevey won 3 and 1.

Gerry Blevins and Bertie Shaw won 7 and 5. That score was to prove crucial.

Carson Clegg and James Bryson, three up after 14 holes, had to be content with a half match.

Kieran Lennon and John Convery were coasting along, 2up after 14 holes, but they let things slip and lost by one hole.

Banbridge won the home leg, two and a half to one and a half. The overall score was tied at five points each.

It would be decided on holes up over the eight games and Banbridge came out on top, by a mere two holes. It couldn’t get much closer than that.

Colin’s men will now play either Killymoon or Silverwood in round two. More excitement is guaranteed.

MARIANNE AND BRENDAN WIN THE MIXED FOURSOMES..

The Mixed Foursomes competition last Friday evening was won by the Lady President, Marianne Nelson, in partnership with Brendan Meade.

They were delighted as this was their first success after several attempts.

The runners-up were Jane and Donald Doyle. They are relative newcomers to the game and, naturally enough, they were ecstatic.

In third place, on countback, were Mary Joe Thompson and her husband David.

These mixed foursomes are great fun. The next big one is on the Friday of Centenary Week, June 7.
