The young debut team, alongside the young debut management, have been putting the hard work in at training since last October. This has been interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning that last night’s victory over East Belfast was even more significant.

Detailing last night’s game, which took place in the Brustin Braes area, a spokesperson for the east Antrim club said: “Captained by the experienced Natasha Dempster, she led the girls out of the traps and they got off to a great start, scoring 1-6 to 0-0 in the first 20 minutes.

“East Belfast came back with a few goals to scare the local girls, but Leigh Murphy, Nicola Black and the shooting full forward Erin Petticrew using their experience and settling the home side down again.

“There was great work from Alex Fergie and Holly Gillan, who were on the front foot all the time, creating havoc in the East Belfast defence.

“A great solid defence from new girls Laura O’Boyle and Michaela McIlwaine with the help of the experienced Teresa McAlister commanding the lines from full back.

“It was an exciting first match for the girls, all that was missing was the local supporters who they have attracted up in the last year.

“Special mention to the physio and background team for coming to help and for East Belfast for traveling here. With a panal of 34 girls playing a part on Tuesday, they got their first win on the board!”
