Wins prove hard to come by for Carniny Youth sides

As usual the Under 17s kicked the weekend off with the Friday Night National League games at the Showgrounds - they kept their unbeaten record but had to settle for a 1-1 draw against St Oliver Plunkett’s.

The Under 16s played their first match of the season at home on Saturday to Lurgan Town and played out a 2-2 draw with the County Armagh side.

The U13s repeated the same 2-2 scoreline with a ‘derby’ tie against Antrim Rovers in the South Belfast Youth league at Mallusk.

The U12s lost out by the odd goal in seven against Colin Valley, whilst the U12 Youths gave a good account of themselves against a Crusaders Academy side as did the U11s against Carrick Rangers in the Lisburn Youth League. In the National league the U14 lost out to early league leaders Cliftonville whilst the U15s lost out to Cookstown Youth.

COERVER DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

Carniny Amateur and Youth FC are delighted to be named as a partner club for Coerver Coaching Ulster. The club are looking forward to introducing Coerver Coaching methods into the next session of their Football Development Centre which commences Monday 28th September for a 10 week session.

Coerver Coaching Ulster’s Director, Austin Speight will be taking each session over the 10 week period in conjunction with Carniny Youth coaches. The Football Development Centre is aimed at children (boys and girls) born in 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008

UNDER-11

Carniny Youth 2, Carrick Rangers 4: Carniny conceded two early goals and that margin moved to three when an effort beat keeper Strange at his near psot.

Cormac McMullan hit the woodwork tiwce before Carniny got back in the game when tricky footwork in the area by Kennedy drew a foul and Kenzie McMullan scored decisively from the spot.

Then, from a Magee throw, Greer crossed and Moody scored from an overhead kick to make it 3-2.

Pushing for the equaliser, Carrick cleared the ball long and another mix up in defence allowed the striker to nip in and finish the game with a goal.

Result: Carniny FC 3, Colin Valley 4.

Carniny Youth 2, Crusaders 4: Carniny took the game to Crusaders and opened the scoring when Turner broke through to open the scoring.

Mullan in goals was bringing off some fantastic saves as the first half came to an end the Crues equalised.

The second half saw the Crues take the lead. Carniny battled hard but it was the Crues who scored again when a cross somehow found the net.

Carniny did pull one back through Fletcher but the Crues scored their fourth.

UNDER-13

Carniny Youth 2, Antrim Rovers 2: Carniny’s pressure resulted in a corner on 10 minutes which was superbly delivered by Pogue to the far post. Young found space in six yard box to knock the ball into the net, making it his third goal of the season but Carniny’s lead didn’t last long after some slack defending.

From another quality delivery, it was Young again who found space to score his fourth goal of the season from close range. Carniny couldn’t hold onto the lead and a few minutes from half time a free kick from the right was headed in for Rovers to equalise.

Both sides cancelled each other out in a scrappy second half with Kerr’s superb 20 yard strike hitting the post.

Result: Carniny Youth 1, Cliftonville 4.

UNDER-15

Carniny Youth 0, Cookstown Youth 3: Cookstown took the lead from a free kick which went into the top corner and gave Shaw no chance. Carniny were clearly rattled and conceded again after the ball was lost in the midfield and Cookstown powered in with a strong finish.

Carniny had a couple of efforts through Parker and McDonald but a quick counter-attack saw Cookstown score again.

UNDER-16

Carniny Youth 2, Lurgan Town 2: The Carniny boys went a goal behind on 14 minutes after a mistake at the back.

Carniny continued to attack and got their reward in the second half when Daly headed home from a Dawkins free kick.

Two minutes later the Carniny boys had the lead when Little headed from another set piece.

With five minutes to go Lurgan levelled the match when a shot was deflected into net. Carniny had their chance to win it at the end but Young’s header clipped the bar.

UNDER-17

Carniny Youth 1, SOPFC 1: Plunkett opened the scoring when Carniny’s defence was unable to clear a free kick which allowed a Plunkett player to tap into Carniny’s net.

Carniny had more dominance in the second half and got a deserved equaliser when Jordan Hassan controlled a ball on the Carniny left and he managed to squeeze a shot into the Plunkett net.

UNDER-19

Carniny Youth 1, Warrenpoint Town: Carniny paid the price for a slow start and they found themselves 3-0 down at the interval.

Two more goals followed in the opening minutes of the second half to put the outcome beyond doubt.

Carniny started to play a lot better and Agnew had a fine shot turned over the bar before the same player scored a fine individual goal.
