Larne’s promotion hopes were dented on Tuesday evening as they lost 3-2 away to Dergview.
The Darragh Park men took a two-goal lead thanks to John Edgar and Nathan Cashel before Stuart McMullan pulled one back for the Inver Reds.
Larne lost McMullan to injury in the second half, leaving them with 10 men. Edgar added Dergview’s third but Ciaran Murray reduced the deficit when he scored directly from a corner late in the game.
The first real chance of the match came when a free-kick from Stuart King on the left fell to Gerard Reynolds but his shot was straight at Jack Boggs.
Dergview forged ahead on 17 minutes when Neil Coulter’s cross found John Edgar and he got to the ball just ahead of John Connolly and he nicked it over the keeper and into the net.
Things got worse for Larne six minutes later when the home side doubled their lead. Breaking quickly from defence, Edgar fired the ball across the face of goal for Nathan Cashel to provide the finish.
Reds boss Davy McAlinden quickly rang the changes sending on Stuart Scott and Darren Stuart to replace King and Reynolds.
On the stroke of half-time Larne were back in contention when Ciaran Murray’s corner fell to McMullan who found the net with a simple tap-in.
Having made their third change early in the second half when James McCabe replaced Eoin Gillan, the visitors were forced to play the final half-hour with 10 men when McMullan picked up an injury.
Dergivew then restored their two-goal lead when Aaron Arkinson found space on the right, setting up Edgar who doubled his tally from 10 yards.
Larne kept battling and ensured a thrilling finish when Murray made it six in three games, scoring directly from a corner.
It wasn’t be the Reds’ night, however, as Dergview held on for the three points.
