THE sporting and wider community has been saddened by the passing of Shea Hamill.

Shea died suddenly on Wednesday (January 23) and was best-known in football circles where he was much loved and respected, not only locally but across the Province through his involvement in the Irish league.

His funeral Mass will take place this Saturday morning, January 26 at 11am in All Saints’ Church. Burial will take place afterwards at St Patrick’s Cemetery, Crebilly.

A former Larne manager, he was a familiar face to many in the town having worked as a PE teacher at St Comgall’s for a number of years. He also had three separate stints in charge of Chimney Corner.

He had a long association with his hometown club, Ballymena United, holding positions including reserve-team manager, assistant-manager and caretaker manager at different times.

Most recently he coached junior side All Saints Old Boys, who he helped win their first Ballymena Saturday Morning League title in their history last season.
