Queen’s victory fires up United for Coagh clash

United will take on the Championship Two leaders at the Riada Stadium buoyed by a weekend win over Queen’s in Belfast.

Paul Gaston’s men have set their sights on downing Coagh after they were cruelly beaten by the Tyrone side in the Intermediate Cup in January

Gaston said: “We’re looking forward to Saturday because the last game against Coagh in the cup match we should have won, we just missed a lot of chances.

“I would rather go with a fully fit squad but the boys are looking forward to it and were saying on Saturday that ‘we owe them one’.”

The fixture sparks a run of four home games in which United hope to race up the table.

They currently sit in 11th place on 26 points and they are within reach of several mid-table clubs.

After the Coagh game Ballymoney can look to pick up points against Killymoon Rangers (Tues 20 March), Chimney Corner (Sat 24 March) and Moyola Park (Tues 27 March).

On Saturday United enjoyed their second win on the bounce despite being ravaged by injuries and supensions.

The silky-skilled Ian Christie was the hero when he fired in a brace during Money’s 1-2 away win at Queen’s.

United took the game to the hosts and were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute.

The normally reliable Mark Gillan stepped up but put the ball wide of the post.

However Gillan quickly made up for the miss when he played a pivotal role in the Toon’s first goal.

On 13 minutes the impressive Hugh Og Boyle won a tackle and played the ball inside to Christie. Gillan received the ball and ran across the pitch and played a disguised pass to Christie who fired home.

United were dominant against their physical opponents and doubled their lead on 65 minutes.

Liam Kearney played in a high ball which was missed by two Queen’s defenders.

Christie reacted quickly to score, while the opposition grabbed a consolation strike late on.

“Look at those las two results, it was good and if we can everyone back and fit we can go on a run and get in the top half of the table and prepare for next year and add to the squad we won’t be far away.
