‘King’ Kenny visits Tobermore ahead of friendly

THE whole football fraternity in South Derry is buzzing since news broke that Kilmarnock FC boss Kenny Shiels was bringing a side over to the province on Saturday July 7th to play in one pre season friendly game against his old club, Tobermore United.

A club spokesman said, “King” Kenny is well thought off in these parts, ever since he was player manager here, and we are all as proud as he is of the progress he has made through the professional game in England and Scotland.

His rise through the ranks as a coach and manager has been phenomenal, capped by that infamous Scottish League Cup victory over Celtic last season.

Tobermore boss Oliver McAuley, who played for Kenny during his spells as manager of Carrick Rangers and Coleraine, is looking forward to pitting his wits against his old boss and agrees that it’s a great honor, not only for Tobermore but also for the wider football public, that Kenny could find the time is his busy schedule to come over and play us in a pre-season friendly.

The game kicks off at 3.00 and the advice is to get there early as a large crowd is expected to welcome the Maghera man home.

Tobermore have two other friendly home games organized, Magherafelt Sky Blues on Sat July 14th with a 2.00 kick off and Coleraine FC on Saturday July 21st with a 3.00 kick off.
