The Waterside men moved into second spot in the table following the comfortable win, which in truth was one of those days at the office where they didn’t have to get out of second gear and were always in control.

In fact goalkeeper Michael Doherty didn’t have a single note worthy save to make throughout the 90 minutes.

Institute got off to the perfect start by taking the lead on seven minutes thanks to Tom Carlin’s cool side footed finish after the young striker latched on to Dale Maxwell’s attempted back header to his keeper Jack Boggs.

Another defensive error this time by Boggs gifted the home side another goal just before the half-hour mark.

Graham Crown’s right wing centre drew Boggs from his line and the alert Stephen Parkhouse out-jumped the keeper to head the ball into the empty net from 12 yards.

Right before half-time Gareth Sproule had a half chance to pull one back but his close range shot was blocked by the alert Paddy McLaughlin.

Another terrible goalkeeping error by Boggs on 61 minutes resulted in ’Stute’s third goal this time Declan McKeever’s low curling free-kick from the right hand edge of the box, somehow caught out the Dergview net-minder and trickled into the keeper’s bottom right hand corner.

Substitute Ronan Doherty went close to scoring on 81 minutes but his low left footed strike from inside the box flashed just wide.

A minute later McFadden went close but his 20 yard drive was parried straight to McKeever by Boggs but credit to the young Dergview net-minder he got off his line quickly and blocked the midfielder’s follow-up shot.

Right at the death Doherty did get himself on the score-sheet when following a goal month scramble the teenager was on hand to turn the ball home from close range.

Institute: Doherty, Crown, P McLaughlin, O’Donnell, C McLaughlin; Varma, McCauley, McKeever, Carlin (Porter 83), Parkhouse (Doherty 63), McFadden.
