The Sky Blues currently sit eighth in the table, two points adrift of the Ports and eight behind the Glens.

Ferguson’s side entertain Carrick Rangers on Tuesday night in a match that was postponed on Saturday because of a frozen pitch at the Showgrounds.

“I am glad this game has been rescheduled do quickly,” Ferguson said.

“We didn’t want to play Linfield three games on the bounce.

“Our aim is to try and put together a run of positive results. We know it is not unrealistic to catch Portadown or Glentoran who have been struggling for a wee bit of form recently.

“They are the two teams immediately above us in the table so we have to set our sights on them.

“The Shield is in the past now. We have to make sure we don’t switch off after winning that. We need to build momentum and try and improve in the Premiership.”

Defender Johnny Taylor returns from suspension for Tuesday’s visit of Carrick.

Eoin Kane – who scored in last week’s Shield final win over Linfield – is unavailable due to work commitments.

“Our focus is on Carrick Rangers on Tuesday night,” Ferguson said.

“We want a positive result in that game and then continue building on that.

“It is the old cliché of one game at a time, but that’s what we have to do.”
