Finvoy in seventh heaven...

TWELVE games survived the elements on Saturday across all four divisions. In the Intermediate Division Raceview with a home win over FC Ballynure re-claimed top spot in the league table.

There were no changes to the league standings within the Junior Divisions as the majority of game played were in the Linda Welshman Memorial Cup and Canada Trophy.

In the Linda Welshman Memorial Cup Finvoy travelled to Newtownabbey 7's and claimed a semi-final spot when winning by the odd goal in five.

Ballynure Old Boys 3 v 1 Rasharkin United

After a steady start to the game Ballynure took the lead on the 19th minute through a good goal scored by Mark Leckey but then saw Ryan Christie cancel this lead out after he scored for Rasharkin on the 25th minute. Both teams had a couple of chances to go in front then as half-time approached Kyle Agnew scored to put Ballynure back in front on the 41st minute. Ballynure started off well in the second half and after Ricky Chambers scored a third goal for them on the 58th minute there was no way back for Rasharkin.

Newtownabbey 7's 2 v 3 Finvoy

A semi-final place was at stake in this game and at the end it was Finvoy who claimed it winning by the odd goal in five against a team from the 1st Division. After a good opening to the game Steven Dallas put the home side in front on the 25th minute and held the lead until Ian Parkhill scored for Finvoy with a well directed free kick on the 38th minute. Half-time saw the teams still level then on the 68thminute Ian Parkhill scored his second goal putting Finvoy into the lead which was increased after Craig Davis headed in from a corner kick of the 75th minute. The Sevens then threw caution to the wind after this and Sam Davidson had a couple of good one on ones with the keeper before he scored on the 86th minute but by then Finvoy were past the post. Glebe Rangers Res 4 v 1 Antrim Rovers

The Rovers from the Division Three though beaten by Glebe from the First Division gave a good account of themselves and can put this game down to a learning experience. Glebe took the lead after Gareth Henry converted a penalty on the 11th minute then added a second goal after Ryan Gurney scored on the 36th minute. Neil McVicker added a third goal for Glebe on the 48th minute this scoreline remained until Gareth Henry scored his second goal on the 80th minute. Time was almost up when the Rovers got the goal they deserved after Darryl McNeil scored on the 88th minute. Referee Mr William McConaghgie

Ballymoney United Res 3 v 1 Raceview Ath

This was a closely contested game and Ballymoney had to be at their best to overcome a determined Raceview teams who on another day may have taken the game to extra time. Ballymoney took the lead after Lee McClelland scored on the 21st minute and held this until David Campbell scored the equaliser for Raceview on the 56th minute. The next goal was to be the crucial one which went to Ballymoney after Lee McClelland scored his second goal on the 72nd minute. Raceview then had to chase the game again and got caught with Mark Gillan nipping to score a killer third goal for Ballymoney on the 84th minute. Referee Mr Bobby Fleming
