Eire Og strong across Championship second half to see off Middletown test

The Intermediate Championship second-round clash entered the break with Middletown in control but Eire Og claimed the upper hand overall thanks to a second-half scoring sequence of 2-4 to 0-1.

The reward is a quarter-final date with Grange on Saturday.

The Eire Og players - under the guidance of Tommy Coleman and James Byrne - recovered from a six-point half-time deficit against Middletown.

A Paul Creaney penalty proved crucial before Nathan McConville grabbed a goal after good work by the former and Daniel Ryan.

Steven Burns and Marty Hoey battled to claim primary possession in the middle as Eire Og improved as play progressed towards the finish.

Eire Og managed just four points across the opening period.

Paul Creaney floated over a free before Nathan McConville’s measured effort from the right. Niall Devlin then closed the gap to a single point ahead of Nathan McConville’s goal.

Eire Og will face Grange at The Athletic Grounds on Saturday from 6 o’clock.

SARSFIELDS

Sarsfields under 16s secured Armagh Championship glory on Monday with success against Ballymacnab in the ladies’ Division Three showdown.

Victory arrived on a scoreline of 1-17 to 2-16.

The senior ladies finished down to Armagh Harps, with the under 16s losing the boys’ shield semi-final to Corrinshego by 5-12 to 3-8.

Sarsfields under 10s reached the quarter-finals of the boys’ tournament organised by Clann Eireann.

Fixtures across the boys and girls were held against Wolfe Tones under eights and St Peter’s under 12s.

Sunday’s Senior Championship date against Ballymacnab finished in a 2-16 to 1-17 reverse for the men.

The latest club lotto numbers are 7, 10, 15 and 16.

Gerald Breen, Jacqueline Doyle, Greg Breen, Geraldine Austin and Sanny Reynolds were the Match Three winners. The jackpot now stands at £1,650.

WOLFE TONES

Wolfe Tones and Sarsfields each suffered Senior Championship disappointment.

The Hoops lost out to Ballymacnab by two points following extra-time for a second successive week, the punishing additional time unable to result in a reward similar to the previous week’s defeat of Forkhill.

Wolfe Tones finished down against Killeavey, with the latter now set to take on Armagh Harps.

Maghery and Annaghmore have progressed into the Senior Championship quarter-finals - with play scheduled across September 11, 12 and 14.

Crossmaglen, the current champions, will meet either Dromintee or Pearse Ogs.
