Cricket: Eglinton re-sign Williams for 2016

The cricket season may have just finished but Eglinton have been very quick to lay a marker down for 2016 with the news that they have re-signed Oraine Williams for next summer.

The 23-year old has enjoyed a productive campaign at the village club and it is little surprise that they have moved quickly to secure his services for another year.

The Jamaican has proved his worth as an all-rounder throughout the season and has been one of the few players to make fairly light of what has been an awful summer for batsmen.

For many though, the new ball battle during the Danske Bank North West Senior Cup final that pitched Williams and Stuart Thompson against Donemana’s Jan Frylinck and Ritchie McBrine was definitely one of the highlights.

Skipper Chris Pierce said that the club was delighted to have secured their overseas man for next season.

“Oraine has worked really hard since he came, both on and off the pitch, and we are more than happy with his contribution.

“It has been a fantastic season for the club generally with the first team reaching the senior cup final and hopefully set to record our highest top-flight finish in many years.

“The fact that Oraine has settled so well here has been helped by the nucleus of our side being around the same age.

“All bar a couple of the current squad are in their early twenties and that has really helped them bond as the season progressed.

“It has been a mixture of hard work and good fun that has allowed us to finish the summer on a high and the lads are all delighted that he agreed to come back.”
