Club make a good start

This year, the Club made the decision to field only one team and are competing in Division 4. Their opening match of the season was away to a very strong Cavehill team. Torrential rain in the first half of the game perhaps hampered the Coleraine performance with the scores level at 2-2 after the four mixed doubles games. They were unlucky to lose out 3-5 overall, after the mens and ladies doubles games, particularly first mens, who were narrowly beaten 8-10 in the Championship tie break.

Coleraine proved too strong for their opponents, Portadown, in their second fixture, at home recording a commendable 6-2 victory. Their winning form continued this week at Belfast Boat Club where they had an extremely convincing 7-1 win. The team are delighted to welcome back Ryan Briggs, still playing well after a two-year absence from tennis.

Also great to have a little youth on their side with the 18-year-olds, James Burnside and Chloe Stewart playing together and winning each of their games.

Next week, Coleraine face Newry/Warrenpoint, another away fixture.

Meanwhile, Coleraine `A’ Ladies Evergreens have played one match so far, losing out 1-3 to Belfast Boat Club whose team comprised of three Ulster Junior Vets players. Coleraine gave a good performance overall however with Denise Ross and Angie Stewart winning one of their two ladies doubles matches.

Good luck to Eileen Andrews this weekend, who has again been selected to represent Ulster in Senior Vets, a fantastic achievement.
