CHAMPIONSHIP TWO: Taylor delighted after win over Moyola Park

PORTSTEWART moved up to seventh in the table after a win over Moyola on Saturday.

Craig Ramsey scored the only goal of the game in the first minute, as Taylor's side beat their mid Ulster counterparts 1-0.

And Taylor was delighted with the win: "They have been our bogie team for years," admitted the Portstewart boss.

"Our record against Moyola has been really poor. Even the year that we won the league, I think they beat us three times, so I was happy with the points."

Moyola offered very little in the first half. Ramsey and Tosh dominated things in defence. Tosh should have made it 2-0 in the tenth minute, but the big defender could only watch as his header went over the bar.

James McLaughlin limped off to be replaced by Tommy Parsons as the first half ended.

Determined to add to their tally, Portstewart played some good football in the second spell.

Ryan McAllister went close as the Moyola defence held firm.

"Loosing James McLaughlin will be a big blow for us," said Taylor.

"He's been really good since he joined us on loan.

"He's a big strong lad, but I hope that he will only be out for three or four weeks. To be honest when he came off, I thought it would be a long term thing.

"Bryan (Tosh] and James are playing really well together. James holds the ball up well and is able to bring boys into the game."

Portstewart have no game this Saturday due to Intermidiate Cup fixtures. Their next game is away to Moyola on Saturday, December 4.

"They are sitting second in the league.

"They are always a team that are difficult to play against. They have a tight pitch and usually they just bombard us, but we'll go and do our best.

"We've been creating plenty of chances in recent weeks, so hopefull that will continue," said Taylor.
