CARRICK RUGBY CLUB: Hamilton scores two tries in win over Grosvenor

Carrick 1st XV got their Qualifying League campaign off to a winning start with a 40-28 away victory over Grosvenor on Saturday.

After a scrappy opening 10 minutes, Carrick took the lead when Ryan Bailey finished off a neat combination move involving Reece Hamilton. It was the only Carrick try which was not converted.

Grosvenor hit back with a converted score but Carrick responded six minutes before the break when Hamilton crashed over after good work from Conor Cambridge.

On the stroke of half-time, Andy McKeen scored a fine individual try with Luke Whittal adding the extras to make it 19-7.

Grosvenor reduced the deficit to six points with two consecutive penalties before McKeen spotted a gap in the defence and raced over from 15 metres out.

Hamilton blazed over for his second try of the afternoon to make it 33-13 only for a Grosvenor reduce the deficit to 10 points thanks to a converted try and a penalty.

Carrick put the seal on victory when Ryan Bailey finished off a move involving Brian Alexander and Hamilton but Grosvenor had the final say with a late uncoverted score.
