The event, which is organised by Outdoor Recreation Northern Ireland in association with Chain Reaction Cycles Flagship Store Belfast, started and finished in Ballycastle and offered participants a choose of three routes around the stunning Causeway Coast and Glens of Antrim.

Event organiser, Beverley Pierson from Outdoor Recreation NI was delighted with the success of the event stating: “It was amazing seeing so many cyclists take off on a bike to explore the beautiful scenery of the area, even despite the weather in the morning.

“Some participants had not even been on a bike in years whilst others were very serious cyclists!

“The reviews and feedback we have been receiving since Saturday have been overwhelming making it clear that this year’s event was another resounding success.”

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council heavily support and fund the event under their Tourism Events Fund as event organisers predicted that this year’s event would generate £216k for the local economy.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Michelle Knight-McQuillan attended the event and was very happy to welcome cyclists across the finish line not only from all over Northern Ireland but from all over the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain.

Afterwards The Mayor said: “This is a fantastic event and yet again hundreds of people from far and wide travelled to Ballycastle to participate, proving that our roads are perfect for exploring on two wheels.

“The Council are proud to have supported this event and we look forward to working with the organisers again in the future to build on the successes of the past five years.”

To make the day even more enjoyable for participants, event sponsors Tayto, Acti Snack, High5, Sportif Magazine, Volvic Water, Whites Oats and Muller Rice provided lots of goodies for the cyclists after they finished the event.

The Giant’s Causeway Coast Sportive is an annual non competitive road cycling event for cyclists of all abilities, covering three routes along the Causeway Coast and through the Glens of Antrim and is now in its fifth year.
