Andrew sets new record

Andrew Richardson, a pupil of CAI, took part in the Irish Drug Free National Combined Powerlifting Championships held in Ardee, County Louth on March 23rd.

Andrew was competing in the U90kg 18-19 year old class and was looking to improve upon his success at the Irish Drug Powerlifting Single Lift Championships back in January in Cork. Andrew did not disappoint. He achieved three new Personal Bests and set two new Irish National Records, finishing first in his class squatting 177.5kg which was a new personal best.

Andrew also Deadlifted an incredible 247.5kg which was also a personal best as well as a new National Record which had stood at 230 kg.

His combined total for all three of the events (Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift) saw him break the Combined Total record which was originally at 525kg. Andrew lifted 535kg, thus setting another new National Record.

Andrew will now be representing Ireland in the European Powerlifting Championships which take place in Castleblayney County Monaghan at the end of April 2013. We wish Andrew continued success.

Andrew would like to thank Rory O’Kane, Personal Trainer at Fitness First, for the training programme and Gillian Topping for Sports Massage, Miburn Complementary Health Clinic. Andrew is now focusing on the European Powerlifting Championships which are being held in Ireland in Castleblayney in four weeks time, April 26th-28th.
