Wheels come off proposal for Carnlough caravan site

The proposed site was to be located near the coast, on the Largy Road.

A public inquiry was held into a planning application for the park, following a number of objections from local residents.

The application from Mr P O’Kane was rejected because the site was in an area of special control, being located in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

The inquiry turned down the plans for the site for a number of reasons.

The inquiry felt that the park would be out of place in the rural scene and would be detrimental to the amenities of the countryside.

It also ruled that the proposed park was outside the built-up area of Carnlough village and would be contrary to the strict planning controls which applied to the area.

The Mayor of Larne at the time, Alderman Tom Robinson, said he was very pleased at the outcome of the public inquiry.

The Ulster Unionist Party representative said that there had been a lot of very strong feelings against the caravan site from people in the local community.
