Vigilance urged over turbine proposals

Alderman Jim Brown made the comments at Monday night’s meeting of the local authority after three separate applications for the structures were granted approval by the Planning Service.

The applications, at sites north west of Marshallstown Road, south west of Knockagh road, and east of Seskin Road in Ballyclare, received no objections.

Ald Brown claimed: “We have a responsibility to the people of Carrickfergus to maintain the environment; if we allow each individual application to come along because there no objections, the Knockagh escarpment is going to be a forest of wind turbines. In fact, one of these applications is of no other purpose than to return power to the grid.”
