Slogans linked to the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and its youth wing, the Young Citizen Volunteers (YCV), were daubed on walls and street furniture, in the Sperrin Park and Fallowlea Park areas.

The UVF-associated ‘FGAU’ - an acronym for For God and Ulster - was also daubed in the area.

He said: “Graffiti has appeared in Nelson Drive and again the Council were spoken to and are going to look at it and the PUP has made it quite clear that we will fully support the removal of that graffiti and we will be in attendance to ensure that work is carried out and all this graffiti is removed.”

A spokesperson for Derry City Council said: “After investigating a report of sectarian graffiti in the Nelson Drive area, Council has now engaged a contractor to remove any offensive material.”
