Tribute to Norwegians

The July 22 atrocities in Norway have had a deep impact in Carrick because of a growing cultural bond with the country.

A Book of Condolence for victims of the bombing and shootings has been opened in Carrickfergus Civic Centre.

The Mayor, Alderman Jim McClurg, was among the first to sign, with local people adding messages of support for the families of the 77 people killed in the attacks.

The tragedy occurred just a matter of weeks after a group of musicians from the Norwegian city of Bergen visited Carrickfergus as the guests of several Ulster bands.

The visit was facilitated by local man and Church Hill Silver Band member John Richardson, who participated in Norway’s Constitution Day celebrations in May.
