‘Transplant gave me back my life’

Carrick man David Watt is hoping to put his name alongside the golfing hierarchy of McDowell, McIlroy and Clarke as he takes to the greens and fairways of the UK Transplant Games.

The 52-year-old will be taking part in the golfing competition for the third time at the nationwide games held in Belfast this year.

Almost five years ago David, who lives in Coates Avenue, received a transplant after he suffered kidney failure in 2003.

The company director said he was taking part in the games to highlight the need for more people to join the organ donor list.

He said: “Taking part is fantastic, but we hope that the games highlight the gift of life that being an organ donor actually is.”
