Tobacco tests in Moyle

SHOPOWNERS across Moyle who sell cigarettes will be tested in March to ensure youngsters are not being sold tobacco products.

A Moyle Council report said: ‘A test purchase exercise in respect of the underage sale of tobacco and volatile substances ie cigarette lighter refills is to be carried out in March.

‘The exercise will check the level of compliance with the law on the sale of such goods to those over 18 years.

‘Abuse of volatile substances can cause sudden death by heart failure, asphyxiation or suffocation.

Retailers are being reminded of their legal responsibilities during ongoing premises visits. They will also be given advance notification of the exercise by letter and a press release issued to local papers,’ said the Council report.
