Time to end two-tier system

The grammar schools have issued the results of their entrance tests (more or less) and it is surely time to take a fresh look at our two-tiered education system.

It is a disgrace that we have one group of powerful, well-resourced schools for the privileged middle-class and another group of ever-struggling secondary schools for working class kids.

It is not enough for the Catholic Bishops to issue popular statements from the pulpits on the injustice of academic selection whilst they allow the practice to continue in Catholic grammar schools.

The Bishops need to show some leadership and end this discredited practice before another cohort of 10-year-old children are forced to sit through these shambolic high stakes tests.
