Suspected drink driver fled weekend crash that ‘ripped up’ Cookstown roundabout

A 37-year-old man has been charged with a number of driving offences including driving with excess alcohol, failing to remain and failing to report a collision after crashing his car at Cookstown’s Dungannon Road roundabout.

The collision ripped up grass on the embankment between Dungannon and Tullywiggan roads and track marks up to a nearby home, that could still be seen on Sunday afternoon.

Parts of the car were also left scattered at the scene.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “He is expected to appear at Dungannon Magistrates Court on 2nd October.

Damaged Cookstown sign now reads 'okstown'

“The charges relate to a one vehicle collision on Dungannon Road in Cookstown during the early hours of Sunday 6th September.”

Another RTC at the same roundabout in August saw the Cookstown sign left without its first two letters - the sign still reads “okstown”.
